Following the notion of skopos theory from Vermeer, Nord explores the process of intercultural text transfer from the role of the initiators to the role of the target text receivers. I think it is important and also significant to propose such a model of translation process. In this model, we can see Nord’s effort in emphasizing several issues such as:
1) translation is an intercultural transfer.
2) translation is a communicative situation, so,
3) the communicative needs of the initiator and the receivers should be attended to.
4) text type analysis can help to decide what kind of traits to focus on when translating.

What seems to be interesting is how Nord combines the notion of translation as an intercultural transfer with text type analysis. When text type analysis is considered, it is usually constrained in the range of discussing different features of texts and how these features can be applied to conducting a translation. However, under this viewpoint, text type has been seen as some universal principle that guides the constitution of a text. I would not say that this perspective is problematic. However, if all the texts from different cultures have to be analysed under the same structure of certain text type, I would say this ‘universal’ viewpoint would then be problematic, as it ignores the underpinning cultural norms and cultural differences in different texts. Therefore, I think it is fundamental to be aware that text type analysis should be based on Nord’s insightful suggestion: ‘[g]enre conventions are not universal, but linked to a certain culture at a certain time’ (p.21). Only when this perspective has gained fully awareness in the research of text type analysis can it be a useful approach to translation studies. Otherwise, it would only present a mono-cultural or monadic point of view of different text types.
